Blog Searching

Can you search the content of your blog?

Last week I received a message from Edublogs, the blogging service that I use to host this blog.  There was big news–thirty-three new “premium” themes were available for my blog!  So, I decided it might just be time to give my blog a new look.

I scanned through the available options and tried out a few.  Eventually, I settled on one that looked just right–’Ocean Mist’ by Ed Merritt.  The new theme was appealing to look at in terms of its clean simplicity and its colours.  The new theme also appeared to have the set of features and functions that I want in my blog.

It was only after making the change that I discovered I’d overlooked a function that has become extremely important to me.  There was no handy search bar available for searching the content of my blog posts.  I tried installing a widget in the sidebar, but the available widget didn’t work for me at all.

With more than four years of posts, I have increasing difficulty remembering when I have written about what.  I’ve come to rely heavily on the search bar that has been located conveniently in the top right corner of the blog theme I’ve been using.  At the same time, I find myself frequently frustrated when I’m unable to search the content of other blogs that I follow.

So, after a couple of posts with the new look, I’ll revert to ‘Misty Look’ by Sadish.  I’ll settle for changing my header to the new photo of the Comox Glacier, the Vancouver Island landmark that looms over most of the blog posts I write.
