Here’s an idea that makes a great deal of sense to me. It also facilitates a UDL approach for higher secondary and post-secondary learners. Thanks, Richard Byrne, for sharing this one!

JoVE is the acronym for Journal of Visualized Experiments. This is a peer reviewed academic journal that has a great deal more going for it than typical academic journals. The video format offers a multi-sensory experience that is considerably more engaging than other academic journals I’ve tried to read.
The “picture” of subject matter presented in JoVE is literally a great deal more complete than anything that is possible with ink on paper alone–even when it is digital ink on digital paper. Since JOVE is a free online publication, its potential audience is also far greater than that of most other academic journals. As well, the built-in comment option facilitates constructive conversation.
JoVE is more than videos. There is a text component of each “article”, and there is a consistent format for both video and text content. The text portion of each article is available for download in pdf format.
The focus of JoVE is life science, or biology; but I think JoVE offers a helpful model that could be adapted and adopted in other subject areas and at different levels of study.
