Shidonni (Online Resource)
September 22, 2008 by Paul Hamilton
Orli Yakuel, at GO2WEB2.0 has shared a brand new online application that targets children, aged 4 – 14, and which offers a “galaxy” of digital creativity and digital fun that can be shared with family and/or online friends around the world.
Shidonni invites you to create a virtual world by drawing it. You begin by drawing a walking or flying creature, and then the world it lives in. The animal or bird is then animated and brought to life. (These “living” creatures can even eat food that you prepare for them.) There are games and puzzles for the Shidonni creatures to play, and you can invite creatures that have been created by friends anywhere in the world to join you in your world.
Shidonni’s developers have deliberately created a non-violent world where shooting games are not the norm. Neither is the Shidonni website populated with any intrusive advertising! Before you can use Shidonni, you need to download and install Microsoft’s cross-platform Silverlight plug-in.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth at least a million. So, here’s a video that fills out my brief introduction to Shidonni.

Hello Guy,
I think you have created a tremendous application for children!
Sorry to hear that the movie does not work for you. It works without any problem on my computer in Firefox. I wonder if you are using Internet Explorer. I believe there are sometimes problems viewing my blog in IE. I don’t know why, but I often wish that IE did not exist!

The video works fine now (Im with IE). Thanks for the warm words and for your review !
Hi,
I cannot see the video you have posted — but Shidonni sounds great!
I’m going to give it a go… If only it had been created with Adobe Flash (installed on all schools computers), and not with Silver Light — installed on… er, no school computers.
Cheers

Hi Paul,
You always have something interesting in your blog. Thank you for sharing! I will be using Shidonni on Monday…a student I work with is in a third grade class studying animals and their habitats. This will be perfect.
