udl4all (online resource)
June 11, 2008 by Paul Hamilton
udl4all is a wiki that I have started recently. I hope it will serve as a resource for anyone with an interest in Universal Design for Learning (UDL). I’m especially keen that it be useful for teachers who are looking for ways of better supporting ALL the learners in their classrooms.
Since I work with technology, the focus of my wiki is on free digital tools that I believe can help ALL learners succeed in today’s classrooms. I focus on free tools because lack of money is a significant barrier that stands in the way of far too many learners who already face other daunting challenges.
In response to my previous post, Ira Socol rightly pointed out that ultimately UDL must be about much more than technology. Still, in today’s world, technology is a critical component in facilitating successful learning for all students. For many, there is virtually no hope of success in school without access to an appropriate range of tech tools that should be readily available to all.
So, please check out the wiki I’m putting together, and let others know about it. I welcome your comments, suggestions, and constructive criticism. I’ve included a link right at the top of the home page to facilitate feedback via email. (I am not using the normal feedback option of the wiki platform because it uses ‘captcha’ that is not accessible to everyone.)

Thank you Paul for putting up this valuable resource. I believe the more we can increase awareness about the tools that are out there to support universal access for everyone, the more of them we will see put to use. I already sent your wiki link to our IT team in hopes that they will look it over and gain some insight. Good job! I am doing a post today to send folks to your wiki from nolimitstolearning.blogspot.com and putting it on my important links I support list.
Please let folks know that we are taking submissions for the AT blog carnival for June, The info is at atblogcarnival.blogspot.com I would love to see a submission from you – why not share your wiki project this month?
Lon
Thanks Lon. I’ll try to do a post about the AT blog carnival within the next couple of days. The power of working together in a connected world is amazing! –Paul
This is a great resource Paul. And what you say is absolutely true. While it certainly cannot be ONLY about technology, the fact is that it cannot be done WITHOUT the technology. Without the technology you can only make students more dependent. Only by giving them the tools which enable their independence can we even begin to get to universal design.
And I’ll say “amen,” to working together. I learn so much from you, from Lon, from Karen Janowski, from Ewan McIntosh, from Enda Guinan, from my list-serves and so many more. Without the power of these social networking technologies I’d be a decade behind where I am now.
Hi Paul
Great job with the wiki. I have added it to the list of useful wikis on the Edublogger Directory Resource wiki.
