Literacy Center (online resource)
November 13, 2006 by Paul Hamilton
Today’s featured resource is truly free–free of charge, ad-free, and free of distracting clutter. The Literacy Center, however, depends on donations from users. Although I promote free resources, I have no hesitation in recommending donations to this site if you find it of value and are able to help. For obvious reasons, this one is on the Content & Curriculum page.
Literacy Center (online resource) This is a high quality interactive online resource designed to facilitate development of basic literacy and numeracy skills. Learning modules consist of carefully designed and research-based flash activities. The developers of this site indicate they have used a modified Montessori approach to the teaching of reading. Not only is this site free of charge for users, it is ad-free and completely free of distracting clutter. All activities are available in English, French, Spanish and German.

Dear Paul,
I just found your Blog and must say that I am very grateful for your kind words.
Since we first posted the LiteracyCenter.Net in 2000, we have given away millions of free lessons.
Educators (especially Special Education teachers) have provided us with valuable feedback and we hope to someday raise enough money to add the much needed lessons that they have requested.
As you mentioned, we do not advertise on our site.
To date, the LiteracyCenter.Net has been supported almost entirely by in-kind donations. For instance, last year, we received a Google in-kind Adword Grant that has really helped teachers find us on Google. We also rely on teacher recommendations like yours.
Our mission is to serve and we are so grateful for those who spread the word. We can’t thank you enough!
All the best,
Linda Hahner
