NLVM (online resource) The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is an exceptional website! It is a comprehensive virtual resource supporting the development of numeracy and the learning of math concepts and skills from K to 12. A team at the University of Utah has created an extensive set of virtual manipulatives and accompanying online interactive exercises.

Activities are organized under 5 main headings: Number & Operations; Algebra; Geometry; Measurement; Data Analysis & Probability. Within each of these areas, exercises are designed for Pre-K – grade 2, grades 3 – 5, grades 6 – 8, and grades 9 – 12. Under each heading, and for each targeted grade level group, there is a set of well constructed activities. For each activity, there are clear instructions, a detailed rationale for the parent or teacher, as well as the appropriate corresponding NCTM standards.

The website is ad-free as well as totally free of distracting clutter. Activities have been created using Java. The user may view the site in Spanish if he or she wishes.

eNLVM is a sister website that offers “eModules”, consisting of online interactive units with assessment, tracking tools that enable students to submit activities, adaptation tools that allow teachers to modify activities, and collaboration tools that make it possible for teachers to work together in creating and publishing materials. There are online tutorials as well as a downloadable “Quickstart Manual”. You must register as a teacher to gain access to eNLVM. Once registered, you have access to eNLVM modules, NLVM activities, as well as to a growing collection of lessons prepared by other teachers.
